New publication

Joris and Bora’s paper on the nonenzymatic hydration of phosphoenolpyruvate to 2-phosphoglycerate is accepted for publication in Angewandte Chemie International Edition. It is our lab’s fifth paper in that journal in 2024. The work describes an alternative strategy to search for the conditions conducive to the emergence of a protometabolism. Congrats!

Dr. Joris Zimmermann

Congrats to Joris Zimmermann on successfully defending his thesis! He is the fifteenth PhD student to graduate from the group. Special thanks to jury members Prof. Nick Lane (UCL), Dr. Jean-Claude Guillemin (Rennes), and Dr. Claudia Bonfio (Strasbourg) for being part of the jury.

New publication

Joris and Robert’s paper on the mechanism of the nonenzymatic phosphorylation of pyruvate to phosphoenolpyruvate is published in Chemical Science. The results suggest that a single phosphorylation mechanism could have been sufficient to initiate a self-organized metabolic network. Congrats to all!
