Congrats to recent PhD graduate Valentyn Pozhydaiev, who has won the best PhD thesis prize from the Alsace chapter of the French Chemical Society (SCF) for his thesis entitled “New Reactions of Aminofunctionalization of Alkenes”.
Congrats to Valentyn Pozhydaiev on successfully defending his thesis! He is the sixteenth PhD student to graduate from the group. Special thanks to jury members Prof. Olga Garcia Mancheño (Münster), Prof. Louis Fensterbank (Collège de France), and Dr. Anis Tlili (Lyon) for being part of the jury.
Valentyn’s paper on tetrahydroquinoline synthesis starting from N-benzylhydroxylamines has been accepted for publication in Chemical Communications. Congrats also to undergraduate author Daniella for her contributions!

Valentyn and Marie’s paper on the 1,2-aminoarylation of alkenes to directly form unprotected primary amines has been accepted for publication in Angewandte Chemie International Edition. Our fourth paper in that journal in the past 9 months! Congrats!
The Moran Lab celebrates 10 great years! Several former group members from around Europe were able to attend the celebration and shared short presentations about their jobs and life since leaving the lab. A day to remember!
The eighth incoming class of PhD students joins the group. Valentyn, funded by the CSC Graduate School, will work on HFIP-enabled catalysis. Maciej, partially funded by the Région Grand-Est, will work on Vibrational Strong Coupling. A warm welcome to both!
Valentyn Pozhydaiev and Martin Power’s feature article on the role of the solvent HFIP in Brønsted and Lewis acid catalyzed reactions has been published in Chemical Communications. Most of this writing was a product of their M1 and M2 stages, respectively and was carried out while the lab was shut down due to COVID-19. Congrats!
